"The European Union after the Lisbon Treaty

His Excellency Pierre Vimont was appointed Ambassador of France to the United States by President Nicolas Sarkozy on August 1, 2007. Prior to his present appointment, Mr. Vimont was Chief of Staff to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, a position he had held since 2002. As a high ranking diplomat, Mr. Vimont has significant experience on European issues. From 1999 to 2002, he was Ambassador and Permanent Representative of France to the European Union. He also served as Chief of Staff to the Minister Delegate for European Affairs from 1990 to 1993. Born in 1949, Pierre Vimont holds a degree in law and is a graduate of the Institute of Political Studies (Sciences Po) and the National School of Administration (ENA). Pierre Vimont joined the Foreign Service in 1977. Dr. Andrew Moravcsik is Professor of Politics and International Affairs at Princeton University where he directs the European Union Program. He held similar positions at Harvard University. He is a leading expert on European institutions and the author of more than 100 publications, notably on European integration, transatlantic relations and international organizations. The American Historical Review called his work The choice for Europe, "the most important work in the field." "CONFERENCES@934" is a series of monthly conferences organized by the Consulate General of France that brings together two leading experts, one French and one American, who confront their analyses on international issues.
