Big Data: don't get the revolution wrong
Big Data: don't get the revolution wrong!
ATTENTION: CHANGE OF VENUE!
Exceptionally, this breakfast meeting will take place
in another Ladurée store, 13 rue LINCOLN, 75008 PARIS, métro GEORGE V
The notion of "Big Data" or "Data Science" is emerging as the must-have concept of the moment, and everyone agrees that it is going to revolutionize the way many companies work.in a wide range of sectors, from design and production to marketing, fraud detection and maintenance.tion, fraud detection or industrial maintenance... Should we in fact prove wrong the skeptics who claim that the concept of "Data Science" is just another marketing catchphrase?is simply a new marketing catchphrase, bringing together existing traditional professions such as Business Intelligence, Data Analysis and Decision Marketing?
Indeed, while "Big Data" and "Data Science" are revolutionizing the way we talk about numbers, is this really a technological and conceptual revolution in the true sense of the word? What changes are needed between the professions of statistician and data scientist? What are the business models of the players in this sector? How can data acquisition and transformation be monetized? Sales and marketing, industrial and financial risks, production and operation...: which applications have the greatest potential for development? How can we ensure the protection of personal data? What about cloud computing? Finally, how are the traditional players in the statistics and business intelligence sector - statistical institutes, polling firms, marketing and technology consultancies - adapting to this revolution?
This first breakfast announces the launch in September 2013 of a series of "data science" events (breakfasts or other specific events) specially dedicated to these new professions, a natural field of application for the skills of "ENSAE Alumni"....
Philippe Tassi, a graduate of the École nationale de la statistique et de l'administration économique (ENSAE, class of 1972), is Deputy Managing Director of Médiamétrie, a key player in audience measurement in France and Europe. In parallel with this career, Philippe has been involved in research and teaching at CEPE, ENSAE and ENSAI. He is also the author of numerous books on statistical theory and methods, decision marketing and survey theory, which have accompanied generations of former students...
Arnaud Laroche, a graduate of the École nationale de la statistique et de l'administration économique (ENSAE, class of 1994), is co-founder and chairman of Bluestone. After working as a researcher at Crest, Arnaud co-founded Bluestone, a business intelligence consultancy and major player in Big Data in France, in 1996 with other Ensae Alumni.
